PeipinLocated between the wooded slopes of the Lure mountain and the Durance plain, the village is nestling at the foot of a hillock dominated by romantic ruins of a medieval castle.
In the Middle Ages, the village was set up around this castle and it dominated the ancient Domitian way which passed at the foot of the hill. |
An important tollhouse was set up from the 13th century to 1878. Many fragments of pottery were discovered in the village and they may indicate that there was a succession of pottery workshops in Peipin.
Actually, it was in Peipin, at the beginning of the 20th century that the last oven in the region ceased to work.
In the centre, the donjon and the chapel of the feudal castle, which was demolished during the Revolution, rise on a hill among box trees, oak trees and olve trees. From the top of the hill you can enjoy an interesting view of the village which is crossed by the "Grand-Rue" built on the traces of the ancient Domitian way. |
The parish church houses interesting pieces of furniture as well as a very beautiful Marseilles earthenware statue made by Joseph Fauchier in 1730 which represents a Madonna and child.
Outside, you can visit the Bons-Enfants hamlet (in the direction of Sisteron): medieval bridge over the Jabron river.
Nice walks in the Jabron valley. |
