Peypinn or Puypin is a Provençal word which comes from the Latin words PODIUM PINI, which is an oppidum, a mound planted with pine trees
Located between the wooded slopes of the Lure mountain and the Durance plain, the village is nestling at the foot of a hillock dominated by romantic ruins of a medieval castle.
In the Middle Ages, the village was set up around this castle and it dominated the ancient Domitian way which passed at the foot of the hill.
An important tollhouse was set up from the 13th century to 1878.
From the 16th century, the centre moved to lower down the hillock to form the definitive village along the road.
Pottery activities date back to the 17th century with craftsmen coming from Moustiers on Charles le Camus' initiative.
Many fragments of pottery were discovered in the village and they may indicate that there was a succession of pottery workshops in Peipin.
Actually, it was in Peipin, at the beginning of the 20th century that the last oven in the region ceased to work.
While the village centre is now standing back from the 85 A road, an important commercial area, which is dynamic and prosperous, has developed around this main road.
